So glad the DEI programs are getting shut down. My son was working at best buy years ago and applied for management training twice, turned down both times, even his boss was surprised. They were only selecting "certain" applicants and sending them to an outside firm for the training. This was in the news too, with pics of the classrooms. Last year best buy started discontinuing their program. I haven't shopped at best buy for years, tens of thousands of dollars not spent there. Oh, and my son now works at Amazon, got promoted twice in three years and now makes 6 figures. Can't or shouldn't fight racism with more blatant racism, especially these systemic racist programs. Elevate everyone, don't do it at the expense of others.
Thank you Chris for standing up to the bully
It is just an illusion, scientists discover new and feel it is final
As a pure UA-cam consumer, I have been following Sabine for some time. She is certainly an excellent astrophysicist. But she didn't get along with the scientific world and threw it away in frustration. According to string theory, dark matter is now its victim. Most of the time she is not wrong, she is already putting her finger in the wound. But she was part of and victim of the business. Nevertheless, their analyses are not sufficient. Scientists are not simply in love with their theories, that sounds like Thomas Kuhn with his paradigm shift. But that's just not true. We have no convincing reason to change our paradigm. For example, lens effects and the movement of the galaxy clusters can only be explained by dark matter. Impatience and anger are not valid reasons.
Physicists would have found dark matter a long time ago has they not foolishly erred.
Professor, thank you for giving us the opportunity to attend this astronomy course and for sharing your valuable knowledge with us. 🪐🌎
Nooooo, I’m late againnn 😢
Chris Impey for Gresham Professor of Astronomy!
How many naked planets are there
Missed this live, but great video as usual. Thanks Chris and Matthew
Thank you
Absolutely brilliant session....
Hate to disagree with the Prof but Jansky was the first radio astronomer. Reber, the amateur, did amazing work afterward.
Want to do a course on astronomy? Please suggest
Is earth getting old?
How much is the Entropy of space and how it can be calculated?
Welp...I'm stumped. I can't even guess at the nature of the sound that occurs just after 32 minutes. Maybe air escaping a balloon? And this, after discussion of the high carbon dioxide atmosphere of Venus and the possibility of cleansing the atmosphere of it?
There is a vent in the office for the HVAC system with a valve or actuator that makes this sound. It's really annoying in real life, and frustrating that it is being picked up on stream. Our apologies.
@@AstronomySOTA Thanks for explaining. I was thinking perhaps an alien 👽 infiltration.
My question is What is Big crunch and is it possible our universe will experience it too??
Many thanks for this! Very interesting about how the telescope time is being distributed. I wonder if there is any bias, like some institutions and research teams getting the observation times faster and easier, and some institutions have to go through lengthy processes to achieve the same result.
Always appreciate the content
Starts 3:40
As always, a very enjoyable and thought-provoking discussion. Thank you Dr. Impey for continuing to to these.
Always absolutely fascinating for an amateur like myself. andrew in Adelaide
Excellent

How come the more of this that I listen to, the more I don't like religion?

I am 75 and have done two courses and currently I am reading " Humble before the void", Professor Impey's book on teaching science to monks. These astronomy courses are the best thing that could happen to me in my old age
Some really challenging concepts for an arts based student but as always super stimulating the engage with. Thanks as always to Prof. Impey, Matthew and the team for deveoting the time, energy and understanding necessary to produce these outstanding sessions.
yo llegue tarde
no I was late...
Nice session prof.
Loving all the Q & A sessions. Thank you!
Thank you, brilliant as always.
Can you release a version of this that’s just answers? For the asmr?
Good afternoon. I would like to ask the professor his opinion on the more than 5 sigma certainly that black matter doesn't exist. Thank you in advance
I loved the question about studying space and any effects on mental health. I had an experience at the Hayden planetarium listening to the narration and watching the show thinking I could do that for the rest of my life. The expansiveness the wonder the extraordinary scope and beauty caused me feel so elated.
Thanks again Prof Impey, Matthew and the team. This session was particularly rich in descriptions of fundamental processes like the formation of stars and galaxies besides what to a non-professional are more advanced, almost esoteric matters. So imaginatively expansive, all this is sure to ward off dementia (I am 75:)
Thank you for these sessions. Get well soon!
Watching this after watching your Royal Institute lecture on Black Holes. Loved your way of clear no-nonsense communication.
this guy knows everything
happy equinox prof. impey et. al.
Wonderfull !!!!
I'm an alum of the u of a. So that bias aside, this is a guy with solid knowledge and understanding. I'm an analytical chemist who happens to be more interested in the theory of physics. I listen to the professor and respect his input
14:32 (just a mark for myself)
Dear Prof Impey and team, thanks so much. So many ideas emerge directly from answers and indirectly, on the way to formulating those. answers. What a wealth of information, how extraordinarily diverse the possibilities. Thanks again. Andrew in Adelaide.
I'm a graduate in Chemistry from the University of Arizona.
There's nothing more discouraging than to tell people how to ask questions
